But the fundamental truth we have to all recognize is that our greatest problem is not outside of us - it’s inside of us! (see Matthew 15:19).

The greatest problem that you or I have is that we have sinned against a good and holy God. Sin simply means we’ve broken His Law. Sin deceives us in making us think we are okay when we are far from it. We have lied, stolen, had angry thoughts, been selfish, jealous, and the list, quite frankly, goes on and on and on. The bottom line is that we have not honored God as He deserves and have tried to live a life that ultimately is about us.

But God has done something about our sin problem in Jesus. Christ Jesus is the Son of God who took the punishment for our sins on the cross (see 1 Peter 2:24). Because of God’s great love for the world (John 3:16), Jesus came to be our substitute by living obediently before God, dying on the cross for our sins, and rising again the third day in victory over death, hell, and the grave.
